How to play Xbox and mobile games with a phone controller clip
Touch controls are fine, but a real gamepad makes cloud gaming and mobile ports far better. Here are three ways to set one up.
Phones are powerful enough for serious games, but touch controls rarely are. Fortunately there are three easy ways to add real buttons.
Option 1: Clip your phone to a controller you own
If you already have a compatible Xbox Wireless Controller, a spring-loaded clip is the cheapest route. Pair the controller over Bluetooth, clamp the phone to the top and you're done.
Option 2: A clamp-on mobile controller
These stretch around your phone and connect directly. They are lighter than a full controller and often charge the phone as you play. Good for travel, but you'll need one that fits your phone and port.
Option 3: Bluetooth and a stand
Pair any Bluetooth controller and prop the phone on a stand. It's less portable, but it works with any phone.
Tips for the best experience
- Use a wired or low-latency connection for fast games.
- Check that your game supports controllers before you buy.
- Cloud gaming works best on 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Whichever you pick, test with a couple of games first — controller support varies a lot between titles.
